And, we’re back

Posted in Site News on June 4th, 2010 by Michael

Recovered from a cracking attempt on the site. Looks like there were some remnants from an old Gallery2 install on the server that they used.

They didn’t succeed in getting in, but they did succeed in completely hosing the WordPress installs.

Well, now it’s back, though still needs cleanup etc. Please pardon the dust.

There shall be a logo

Posted in Site News on March 27th, 2009 by Michael

For the past ten years (well, almost) this site has lived without a logo. Main reason? I suck at graphic design and every person I know I asked and they were either too busy or said they would but they didn’t.

I may suck at graphic design, but I do know how to use a camera, so I “recycled” one of my photos and with the power of the keyboard managed a “logo”.

Yes, I am oh so proud of myself.

Hey Google! You SUCK!

Posted in Site News, The Internet on August 11th, 2008 by Michael

So, now it is all “back to before” I even removed all the plugins on WordPress because something tripped Google up resulting in all Firefox users getting a warning that I am “distributing malicious software”.

The kicker is their own analysis page:

What happened when Google visited this site?

Of the 28 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 6 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 08/05/2008, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 08/05/2008.

Malicious software includes 11 trojan(s). Successful infection resulted in an average of 2 new processes on the target machine.

Malicious software is hosted on 2 domain(s), including 61.155.8.0, wp-stats-php.info.

Has this site acted as an intermediary resulting in further distribution of malware?

Over the past 90 days, thedarkerside.to/rants/ did not appear to function as an intermediary for the infection of any sites.

Has this site hosted malware?

No, this site has not hosted malicious software over the past 90 days.

Get this? They say themselves the site has not acted as an “intermediary” for an infection, it has not hosted any malware and yet I am still blacklisted by Google. The error message is uttelry useless to troubleshoot the site, they don’t tell you WHAT exactly tripped them, just that something did.

Fuck, this is like being put on trial in Guantanamo Bay, they charge you with “something” but you cannot see the evidence they have because IT’S SECRET!

Way to go Google. You guys officially suck.

A new project

Posted in Site News, The Internet on July 26th, 2008 by Michael

This has been on my “to-do” list for quite a while. And now I am about to make it “go”.

The thing I am talking about is swma.net reborn. And no, not as the Star Wars Modelling Alliance. I never let go of the Domain after it went down, rather I kept it because it was so nice and short and well… did nothing with it, outside of getting insulting emails now and then being accused of “stealing” the domain.

Ah well, the good times.

But now the new site is taking shape, and as the tag line says so nicely:

A place for the hedonist in all of us

I have (so far?) two “volunteers” that want to contribute, if that works out or not I guess we’ll see. I am sceptical, people are always more enthusiastic in the beginning. But who knows.

The first post is live now and you can go and read it, hopefully there will be a lot more to come.

Want to take part? Drop me an email (or leave a comment). Please note: There will be a style / writing guide and I will enforce it. Just because it is build around a blog doesn’t mean it has to be like one.

New Category

Posted in Site News on July 20th, 2008 by Michael

I have started a new Category “Debt Watch”. It is essentially some loose / random thoughts and links on what is currently going on in the markets around the world.

In case you’ve been asleep at the wheel: The ones who were supposed to be “experts” were taken over by plain and simple greed, and the end result of it is now that someone is going to get to hold the bucket. Take a guess who that may be.

Here’s the “first” (I had mentioned it before, but I am not going back in time) posting towards this topic.

Enjoy your stay.

Twitter? Nah, not for me

Posted in Site News on July 10th, 2008 by Michael

I just tried for the last hour or so (instead of lunch) to get the stupid Twitter plugin working, no luck, searching online gave me some “hints” to what may be the cause but that all ended in a dead end too.

So for now, I give up on the stupid “Plugins”. Why are they called that anyway? I don’t think I ever found a plugin for a program that really just plugged in and was good to go.

Oh yeah, the Flickr Stream is there though. So enjoy that at least.

A Software Upgrade

Posted in Site News on July 9th, 2008 by Michael

This is written by Ecto 3.0 which is still in Beta, I wonder if it has fixed a few of the problems I found with 2.4 (mainly the odd “sliding” of the post time if you go back in editing).

I may just upgrade I guess….. It now as plugins, which I guess makes Ecto arrive in 2002 or some such.
