“Youth” Music still crap

Posted in Life, Music on February 2nd, 2005 by Michael

Occasionally I am forced to listen to radio, and the conclusion I came to is that most of the music that “college age kids” (haha, what an oxymoron) listen to these days is pretty much the same crap as it was when I was their age (outch! I just admitted I am an old fart).

It is outright scary to hear this crap played on the radio again and I can’t believe that it still sounds the same.

Now, there are two possibilities in my opinion:

1. I am in a time warp, the music is chasing me with a roughly ten year delay.
2. Most young people just don’t have any musical taste and so the industry can recycle the same crap roughly every ten years.

Neither of these two options makes me happy, because it doesn’t really leave any option for a light at the end of the tunnel.

So what to listen to?

Well, there is:

- Radioparadise which has a rather nice eclectic selection.
- Soma.fm (where I can recommend recommend pretty much any of their streams)
- RantRadio (in particular the Industrial Stream)

Let’s face it, most “over the air” radio is just plain crappy, hence why do you think satellite radio and DAB are becoming so popular? But thanks to my iPod I just do a lot of podcasting these days.

And to anyone in their early 20s who thinks that the local radio station has great music….. Please, check out the links above and then reconsider. Thank you.

Something is about to give
I can feel it coming
I think I know what it means
I’m not afraid to die
I’m not afraid to live
And when I’m flat on my back
I hope to feel like I did

’cause hardness, it sets in
You need some protection
The thinner the skin

I want you to know
That you don’t need me anymore
I want you to know
You don’t need anyone, or anything at all

Who’s to say where the wind will take you
Who’s to say what it is will break you
I don’t know, which way the wind will blow
Who’s to know when the time has come around
Don’t want to see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

In summer I can taste the salt in the sea
There’s a kite blowing out of control on a breeze
I wonder what’s gonna happen to you
You wonder what has happened to me

I’m a man, I’m not a child
A man who sees
The shadow behind your eyes

Who’s to say where the wind will take you
Who’s to say what it is will break you
I don’t know, where the wind will blow
Who’s to know when the time has come around
I don’t want to see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

Did I waste it?
Not so much I couldn’t taste it
Life should be fragrant
Roof top to the basement
The last of the rocks stars
When hip-hop drove the big cars
In the time when new media
Was the big idea
What was the big idea

Not Enough

Posted in Music on January 2nd, 2005 by Michael

There’s nothing you can say
Nothing you can do
There’s nothing in between
You know the truth

Nothing left to face
There’s nothing left to lose
Nothing takes your place

When they say
You’re not that strong
You’re not that weak
It’s not your fault
And when you climb up to your hill
Up to your place
I hope you’re well

There’s nothing left to prove
There’s nothing I won’t do
There’s nothing like the pain
I feel for you

Nothing left to hide
Nothing left to feel
I am always here

When they say
You’re not that strong
You’re not that weak
It’s not your fault
And when you climb up to your hill
Up to your place
I hope you’re well

What you want
What you lost
What you had
What is gone is over

What you got
What you love
What you need
What you have is real

It’s not enough
It’s not enough
It’s not enough
It’s not enough, I’m sorry

It’s not enough
It’s not enough
It’s not enough
It’s not enough…

When they say
You’re not that strong
You’re not that weak
It’s not your fault
And when you climb up to your hill
Up to your place
I hope you’re well

It’s not enough
No
It’s not enough
It’s not enough

Let It Die

Posted in Life, Music on December 19th, 2004 by Michael

Let it die and get out of my mind
We don’t see eye to eye
Or hear ear to ear

Don’t you wish that we could forget that kiss ?
And see this for what it is
That we’re not in love

The saddest part of a broken heart
Isn’t the ending so much as the start

It was hard to tell just how I felt
To not recognize myself
I started to fade away

And after all it won’t take long to fall in love
Now I know what I don’t want
I learned that with you

The saddest part of a broken heart
Isn’t the ending so much as the start
The tragedy starts from the very first spark
Losing your mind for the sake of your heart
The saddest part of a broken heart
Isn’t the ending so much as the start
