Coffee, Globe & Camera

Wicked Cafe

I admit, I have fallen in love again with taking photos. The excitement of not getting to see the result right away, the “limits” that film imposes on you (e.g. exposure time due to film sensitivity) and the “analog feel” that comes with it all remind me of why I got into it in the first place.

In a way I guess I get the reason behind Lomo now, but I still think that Lomo itself is a rather “clever ploy”, a lot of the lomo shots are “fun” but they aren’t very creative / consistent I am tossing quite a lot of my shots out as well (though on the last roll I got rather lucky).

The problem for me with Lomo, as much as with “flickr” (to use a photo sharing site as an example) is that digital image processing has resulted in a lot of crap being put out. There is the family picture which before would probably never have made it out of the family album, now it is there for all world to see. The 500 snapshots of your dog as well etc.

This is fine I guess, much like blogs people want to share, it’s ingrained in all of us, but much like most bloggers aren’t writers, most flickr users aren’t photographers (am I one? I don’t know, you tell me) and as such it is hard to find good shots that are worth spending time on.

But we’ll see. I can’t wait to get my hands on the Mamiya next week and take some shots. I already have ideas for projects I want to do…. Maybe I found at least one of my creative outlets again.
